As with so many UHNW industries, 2025 has shown that the private aviation scene isn’t just resilient – it’s growing, changing and evolving all the time, and in many cases, it’s doing so in ways no industry analyst could have predicted a few short years ago.
What’s driving the growth of private aviation?
By looking closely at the fastest growing private airports (or, at least, the airports with the highest increases in private jet arrivals and departures), we can more closely examine the shifting demands, strategic investments and regional economic shifts within the industry.
These trends do not exist in isolation, and a sudden or rapid change in popularity of certain aviation hubs clearly signals a shift in global pulling power. There are numerous reasons why private plans might be heading to certain locations more than ever before, but they most commonly boil down to booming businesses (especially tech hubs) flourishing in certain cities, changes in lifestyle migration patterns and second home ownership, and significant investments in premium amenities made by the airports themselves. Simply put: build it, and they will come.
Of course, one cannot discount the winds of change within the tourism and recreation industries, either. As different locations become the place to be seen (or, indeed, the place for the ultra-wealthy to enjoy privacy and discretion), this too drives increases in both seasonal and year-round traffic.

San José Mineta International, SJC
Perennially busy, San José Mineta experienced a significant 6% increase in private aviation traffic throughout 2024 and the first half of 2025, continuing a trend that’s been underway for several years. This, of course, comes down primarily to the reinvigorated Silicon Valley boom – the bay area of California shows no signs of slowing as a hub of tech business innovation, and high-flying tech executives undoubtedly value San José Mineta’s strategic location.

Teterboro Airport, TEB
New York City is unlikely to ever be missing from the list of desirable hubs for UNHW travellers, and Teterboro Airport provides almost unfettered access to the dazzling lights of Manhattan, located a mere 12 miles from the runway. Teterboro’s reputation among elite aviation passengers is built upon efficiency and discretion; it doesn’t service any commercial airlines whatsoever, and allows easy entry not only to the city itself, but also to nearby JFK and Newark airports for onward travel.
A round-the-clock service adds to an offering of discretion and exclusivity. What’s more, recent updates to top-tier FBOs, private suites, gourmet in-flight dining services, valets and all-important on-site customs have resulted in TEB becoming one of the US’ busiest centres for private aviation of the highest level.
Van Nuys Airport, VNY
Similarly to Teterboro in New York City, Van Nuys Airport has built its reputation on serving the needs of the global elite travelling to and from the luxurious environs of Beverly Hills, California. Palm Beach International, PBI
It should come as a surprise to nobody that Palm Beach International has found its way onto this list, as it remains a key hub for private aviation in South Florida. Unlike many of the others mentioned here, PBI’s appeal for affluent travellers centres almost exclusively upon its proximity to an array of luxury tourism destinations – primarily Palm Beach itself, the Gold Coast and Jupiter Island.
The airport is a mere stone’s throw from the oceanfront, and a considerable uptick in private aviation usage since the COVID-19 pandemic has ushered in plans for an imminent third runway to help handle increased traffic. An impressive 35% of all flights to and from PBI in 2024 were private, and the high demand for luxury jet usage during the busy winter vacation season led to the opening of an entirely separate terminal – complete with exclusive lounges and on-site US customs – was created to process private aviation customers and crew.
Eagle County, EGE
On the other end of the luxury tourism scale, Eagle County Airport – which serves both Beaver Creek and Vail in Colorado – is growing as a dynamic centre for high-end winter retreats and those seeking the astounding natural beauty of the region. Almost 60,000 operations were completed at the airport in 2024, with a significant increase in the number of private jets and charters driving the airport’s reputation on the UHNW clientele’s radar.
Last year, Eagle County Airport undertook major terminal updates and improved customs facilities to help meet demands from its well-heeled customers, and further plans are underway to increase its capacity for private flights.
Mesa Gateway
Phoenix’s Mesa Gateway airport was once primarily known for hosting an array of low-cost airlines, ferrying passengers to and from Arizona. However, the past year has seen significant changes to the airport’s fortunes, and it’s rapidly becoming a centre of excellence for private jets in need of servicing or expertly-managed hangar space.
The reason for its inclusion on this list? It all comes down to the remarkable MRO growth of the past two years, driven almost exclusively by the launch of Gulfstream’s West Coast service centre, and the jaw-dropping assembly plant at the centre of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic project. Indeed, Mesa Gateway is poised and ready to be at the heart of the seemingly-inevitable rise of space tourism, and as such, immense work is underway to host an intrepid new generation of UHNW travellers seeking the utmost in out-of-this-world luxury.
Dallas Love Field, DAL
The prettily-named Dallas Love Field airport has seen a recent boom in popularity and growth, directly correlated to the rapid increase in popularity of Dallas as a destination. It won a significant accolade back in 2020 – first place in the J.D Powers’ list of best airports – which seemed to dynamise the owners to further exceed expectations, and the runway was upgraded a year later to help deal with an increase in private and general aviation traffic.
As more and more private jets flock to Dallas, carrying passengers keen to see what the city’s cultural and business districts have to offer, the luxury amenities of Love Field just seem to keep coming thick and fast. It now boasts a luxury shopping complex, an array of private art installations and exhibitions, and dining options which frequently catch the attention of UHNW travelling foodies. Deluxe through and through, Love Field is blazing new trails for other airports keen to attract more private passengers, and doing so with an impressive commitment to green credentials that surely won’t go unnoticed.
Where escapism meets convenience
In a world that was – just a few short years ago – shutting down and closing itself off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the private jet industry underwent a whole new era of evolution. Those within the UHNW embraced the opportunity to not only fly to far-flung destinations in order to socially distance themselves, but also took full advantage of being able to fly privately in order to reduce the risk inherent in using commercial airlines at that time. The need for distance, escapism and safety provided the perfect backdrop for an uptick in private travel.
While the passing of the pandemic led to a slight industry downturn, the upward trend soon returned as a tour de force that continues to defy expectations. Whether this will prevail depends on a number of different factors; there naturally remains some hesitancy within sectors of the global elite regarding the ecological impact of private aviation, although these worries have in turn led to a whirlwind of innovations within the green transport sector.
Regardless of the questions regarding the future of international and domestic air travel, 2025 has seen certain airports and other hubs experiencing an unprecedented boom in private jet traffic. It’s something that industry trendspotters have been closely monitoring – after all, private aviation traffic not only acts as a bellwether for which locales are drawing the attention of the world’s globe-trotting elite, but also signals where investment in infrastructure and luxury services are set to grow further.
